Store, donation station, and Good Careers Center at 1533 Austin Highway now operational

(SAN ANTONIO –November 10, 2018) -  The Goodwill San Antonio location at 1533 Austin Highway is open for business again after an October trailer fire caused smoke damage to the building.  The store, donation station, and the Good Careers Center is fully operational and ready to serve the community.

On the morning of October 10, the San Antonio Fire Department responded to a call at the Goodwill Austin Highway location, and found a small fire located inside one of the trailers docked at the back of the building.  Thankfully no one was hurt, but it unfortunately closed the store and GCC due to smoke damage. The store had to be completely emptied, front and back, to allow for a remediation team to fully clean.

On Oct 10, we experienced a trailer fire at our Austin Highway store. Thankfully no one was hurt, but it unfortunately closed the store and GCC due to smoke damage. The store had to be completely emptied, front and back, to allow for a remediation team to fully clean. All store team members worked at Eisenhauer processing goods to restock the store or worked at other stores during closure. The team completely re-stocked the store on Oct. 25 and reopened for business today. The GCC re-opened Oct. 22. A store grand re-opening is planned for Nov. 10.

Throughout this process we experienced great Goodwill teamwork in getting the store and GCC back in operation as quickly and safely as possible. Our Austin Highway employees have responded with exceptional loyalty and have our great appreciation. We could not have turned this around in 15 days without the dedicated Austin Highway team!

Our Austin Highway customers are also extremely loyal and we are anticipating a tremendous recovery weekend and Halloween month!

Thank you team!
